I was working for an infamous corporate firm on a short term contract and whilst I was there I saw a guy who caught my eye. This guy worked in another building from me and I would seldom see him, when I did see him it was on my lunch break and we exchanged glances. We never had the opportunity to speak but saw each other on the odd occasions though he was always preoccupied or with male colleagues which made those rare sightings even harder to converse. I would often sit with another coworker at lunch who coincidentally knew him from university and would greet him. I asked my colleague for his name, .hoping that I can email him if I didn’t get the chance to speak to him during my time at the company. The email address at my previous workplace is the full name of the person plus the company name, so I figured obtaining a standardised address wouldn’t be intrusive furthermore all employee names are accessible on the database.
Anyway, now that I have officially left the company I would like to send him an introductory email and asking him out in a subtle way? I do feel awkward because I’m a reserved woman but would rather choose this method than do it through a coworker I barely know. I’m hoping he doesn’t judge me for taking such a questionable approach.
Do you think this is a plausible way of communicating with him? Also please bear in mind the circumstance and not wanting to befriend him in a professional setting. I have no idea how to word the email without appearing foolish or creepy. I really do like him and I believe the feeling is mutual.
Open Question: Asking out a guy from your former workplace?
